“The maintenance of normal acid-base balance is one of the body’s most important homeostatic functions,” said Martini, Bartholomew, Bledsoe 2008.
There is a balance our body needs to maintain in order to stay in the state of health or homeostasis. Your blood pH needs to be maintained between the range of 7.35 and 7.45 to remain in homeostasis. If it is too low or too high, the body is prone to diseases and in some cases even death. In many cases, people are in an acidic state.
Cancer is a disease that thrives when the body is in an acidic state – blood pH is below 7.35!
The external pH of a solid tumor is acidic as a consequence of increased metabolism of glucose and poor perfusion. There are prevention measures you can take to reduce the rate of cancer. If you have a normal acid-base balance, then your body will be able to defend itself against not only malignant tumors, but also against other diseases.
First and foremost, you need to establish your pH level in your body! Go to your local health food store and purchase a pH-testing strip kit. These typical come in a roll.
There are 2 ways to test your pH using the strips:
1. one is by testing your saliva
2. the other one is your urine.
Your saliva is not as reliable as your urine. Regardless, the best time to test your pH level is in the morning after you awake. If the average urine pH is below 6.5, your body’s buffering system is overwhelmed, a state of “autotoxication” exists, and attention should be given to lowering acid levels.
If you test your saliva, be sure you have not eaten within 2 hours or had anything to drink. Wash your mouth with your own saliva, swallow and do again. Making sure, you have saliva in your mouth, place the strip on your tongue and compare the results against the color guide that comes with your strips.
If you test urine, do it first thing in the morning with the first urination. It is simple, urinate on the strip and compare the strip with the guide on the kit. If the saliva pH is too low (below 6.5), the body may be producing too many acids or may be overwhelmed by acids because it has lost the ability to adequately remove them through the urine. If the saliva pH is too high (over 6.8), the body may suffer greatly, e.g. excess gas, constipation and production of yeast, mold and fungus. This is very similar to testing the chemicals in a swimming pool.
How to correct your pH if it is not within the normal range
There are varieties of things that influence your pH levels. Everything you put into your body creates the pH level within your body. Using a swimming pool analogy, if the pH of the pool is out of range, a variety of fungus and algae’s that are not to be there grow. It becomes more difficult to get the delicate balance of water back to the level to maintain crystal clear pool. In contrast, we need to focus on what we eat in order to maintain our pH level in a neutral range!
First and foremost, you need to try to eat as pure as possible. That means that none of the food should be processed. Eating organically is the best we can do in this area. This will at least reduce the number of chemicals entering our body.
Remember: every chemical we put in, the body has to work with to overcome. It is no different than the swimming pool scenario where the balance of the pH is critical to the clarity of the water.
Second, you need to understand which foods are alkaline and which are acid. Simply put, virtually any raw vegetable is alkaline, and meats are acidic. Now, this is not to say you should give up eating meat completely and eat only raw vegetables, although there are some benefits to this regarding your health state.
However, the portions of your vegetables should be much greater than your meat portion! Eating properly is the fundamental basis for restoring our body’s pH to homeostasis.
