Some people gain weight around their stomach, while others accumulate fat on their thighs. Every type of fat can tell a lot about your health and your dietary habits as well.
Here’s what your body is trying to tell you if you gain weight in critical areas:
EXCESS ABDOMINAL FAT
According to a study conducted at the Yale University, gaining fat in the abdominal area is usually caused by stress. Scientists have also managed to discover that the second most common cause of abdominal fat is bacterial imbalance.
Staying physically active is key for losing abdominal fat. Go for a walk or jog every day and try yoga or Pilates to reduce the stress and start burning the fat. Of course, you also need to adjust your diet – avoid consuming white bread, citrus fruit, pasta, candy and alcohol as they feed the bacteria in your intestines that are causing the problem. Protein from chicken, fish, green vegetables and fiber-rich foods such as potatoes, olives and beets should slow down the absorption of sugars in the intestines and regulate your digestion.
EXCESS FAT ON THE CALVES
Fat accumulation on the calves is related to insomnia.
Avoid consuming carbs and sugars for at least 3 hours before going to bed. Drinking too much fluids before going to bed is not a good idea as well. Vitamin B deficiency is another cause for the problem, so try eating more beef, nuts, yogurt and eggs to restore the levels of this vitamin in your body.
EXCESS BACK FAT
This type of fat is caused by slowed carbohydrates digestion.
To restore the body’s ability to digest carbs, you should avoid white bread and opt for whole grain bread in your diet. Eat more whole grains as well, especially those who go well with yogurt.
EXCESS ARM FAT
Excess fat on your upper arms is often caused by excess toxins in the body. People with a high amount of bisphenol-A (BPA) in their bodies have a tendency of accumulating fat in their arms, according to one American study. The main source of bisphenol-A are different kinds of plastic – avoiding plastic water bottles for at least 3 days should reduce the amount of BPA in your body by 77%!
The solution is self-explanatory – avoid using plastic bottles, dishes and cups at home and try doing pushups to reduce the fat on your arms.
FAT ON THE FACE
If you have fat accumulation on your cheeks and you have double chin as well, it may be caused by water retention. Alcohol can also be the culprit as it dehydrates the skin, which results in water retention in the face.
Reduce the amount of alcohol you’re drinking every day and stimulate the circulation in the area by massaging the critical zones in circular motion a couple of times a day.
EXCESS FAT ON THE THIGHS
Excess fat on the thighs is usually caused by genetics, but on the brighter side, people with this problem are less prone to heart disease.
Exercise! Try doing squats and jumping jacks which will increase your muscle tone and burn the fat on your thighs. Aerobic exercises can help as well, as they will increase your heart rate and help your body burn fat more efficiently.
